About the opportunity
The Specialist, External Communications and Specialist, Internal Communications are key members of AUSTRAC’s two communications teams.
The roles are responsible for supporting the communications function at AUSTRAC. They work closely with their stream leads and other team members to deliver impactful communications, in partnership with stakeholders.
The External Communications team is part of the Education and Industry Engagement branch. They lead communication with AUSTRAC’s reporting entities and other external stakeholders. They ensure targeted and effective communications with these key audiences. They also manage AUSTRAC’s external communication channels, including AUSTRAC’s quarterly newsletter InBrief, the AUSTRAC website, bulk emails and social media channels.
The Media and Internal Communications team is part of the Office of the CEO branch. They lead communications with AUSTRAC staff and manage public affairs through media engagement. The internal communications function plans, executes, and evaluates communications strategies to achieve specific organisational goals, such as supporting AUSTRAC’s change and transformation. They deliver messages across channels including the intranet, CEO communications and all staff newsletters to enable shifts in how we work.

- Apply specialist communications expertise - Demonstrates a high level of capability in applying specialist and technical communications skills and knowledge, and provides sound advice and quality assurance.

- Write and Report - Effectively adapts communication style and the technical complexity of the message to meet readability goals and audience levels of understanding, and writes clearly, succinctly and correctly, structuring information to meet the needs of the target audience.
Key Duties
The Specialists, under limited direction, are responsible for a combination of the following duties as relevant to their team:
- Developing, implementing and evaluating communications plans, products and activities in consultation with various stakeholders.
- Providing strategic communications advice to business areas across the agency, and working in partnership with them to deliver high quality outcomes.
- Planning, developing, implementing and evaluating internal and external communications activities for a range of audiences.
- Managing communications across multiple channels and products such as web, social media, intranet, email, visual assets, video, newsletters and guides.
- Identifying new and innovative ways to improve AUSTRAC’s communications function, including optimising channels and activities.
- Ensuring consistency in the quality of agency publications, including reviewing for accessibility, alignment with government style and agency brand.
- Supporting the delivery of change messages for specific stakeholders and business outcomes.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this role you:
- Must be an Australian citizen at the time you apply.
- Will need to undertake AUSTRAC’s pre-engagement checks.
- Will need to obtain and maintain an ongoing Negative Vetting 1 Clearance
