About the Opportunity

AUSTRAC, Australia’s financial intelligence agency, is evolving to strengthen its fight against money laundering and terrorism financing. As we expand our regulatory reach, and leverage international partnerships, we work to protect Australia from serious and organised crime to help build a more resilient global financial system. To help achieve these goals, we are seeking to fill 2 roles - APS6 Specialists, Multilateral Engagement, within the Multilateral Engagement and Coordination team.

APS6 Specialist, Multilateral Engagement

Intelligence

As Australia’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the Intelligence division analyses data and generates key financial intelligence on money laundering, terrorism financing and a wide range of other crime types and national security matters.

In this role, you'll help connect teams across AUSTRAC with regional counterparts for mutual operational gain, drive capacity, building work in Financial Investigation Unit and strongly support and advocate the work of the Pacific Financial Intelligence Community (PFIC) and Financial Intelligence Consultative Group (FICG).

Regulation

The Regulation division is responsible for AUSTRAC’s regulatory function. As the AML/CTF regulator, AUSTRAC regulates more than 17,000 individuals, businesses and organisations to ensure they comply with their obligations under the AML/CTF Act.

In this role, you'll support the delivery of programs, activities, and forums covering AML/CTF regulation, which help our international counterparts build their capacity to respond to organised crime networks operating in the region. Your work and impact will lead to greater collaboration with our international counterparts, multilateral entities and law enforcement agencies.

Each role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic priorities of the Division you'll be aligned to. At application and interview, you will be asked to select and confirm your interest between the 2 areas.

The key duties of the position include:

  • Provide administrative, logistical and secretariat support including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, minutes and managing correspondence.
  • Drive effective communication and coordination with internal and external stakeholder engagement to support multilateral activities.
  • Draft high-quality documentation such as briefings, working papers, and strategic advice to support forum leads, senior executives, and working groups.
  • Perform other duties, including providing support to other international programs of work and regional forums.
  • Anticipate and respond to changes in environmental, legislative and political contexts by applying sound judgement in assessing potential impacts on operational and strategic priorities.
