About Future Group

Future Group is not your traditional financial services company – we're a collective of super funds and services committed to changing our planet now for a better tomorrow. When you join us, you’ll become part of a team united by a clear and important mission: to lead the investment movement by advocating and campaigning for a future worth retiring into.

We are looking for someone to join our purpose-led high-growth scaleup. So, picture this: Imagine you have the power to paint a picture of what the Future Group is all about, from smartMonday to our corporate entities and every fund we bring into the fold. By steering our communication strategies, helping to implement processes, shaping our brand image, and forging key partnerships, you'll be a key factor behind how people see us. It's all about making sure that when folks think of the Future Group, they think of reliability, trustworthiness, and all-around excellence. In a nutshell, you'll be the driving force that sets us apart as the go-to, reputable choice in the real world.

Your north star: We need a real people person who can work some magic with words and connections. They'll be the maestro behind our communication plans, using their skills to boost our reputation through media, events, and partnerships. Plus, they've gotta be cool under pressure, able to handle crises and keep everyone on board.

And the best bit, you’ll get to work with some fantastic work mates. You will lead the communications team along with 3 members who will report to you. You will also have an indirect line to the executive leadership team. To better describe the team, each member brings their unique talents and energy to the table. Picture a group of passionate individuals who are all about making a difference and pushing boundaries. A close tight knit team who have creative minds buzzing with ideas, strategic thinkers mapping out our path to success, and go-getters who aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves and get things done. Together, the communication team is a powerhouse, united in our mission to elevate the Future Group to new heights. It's a dynamic and inspiring environment where everyone's contributions are valued and celebrated.

We strongly encourage applications from people with diverse lived experience and identities, as the problems we face are complex, and the more diverse our team is, the better our solutions become. We are a team that is all about building a strong workplace culture, that's not only diverse, but competent. We are always learning and doing better together, and holding ourselves to account on our values.

Future Group values lived experience and we encourage applications from people with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, who have caring responsibilities, from culturally and racially marginalised groups, people with disability, people who experience ageism, LGBTQIA+ people, and people who experience social exclusion because of their social class.

If you require any adjustments throughout the recruitment process, please reach out to our talent team at [email protected]. We want to ensure our recruitment process is equitable for all, and we’ll happily make any reasonable adjustments where required.

You’ll love this job if:

  • You find superannuation opaque and frustrating, if you had the chance to revolutionise the industry to be better for people, you would
  • You love sharing your ideas and seeing what happens. At this scale-up, you're not just a small fish in a big pond. Your contributions have a direct influence on our impact and how we work
  • You like to be kept on your toes - change is inevitable here. You like to tackle new challenges, and maybe even discover talents you never knew you had
  • In this role, we're not just looking for someone with a laundry list of qualifications – we want someone with the right mix of soft skills to truly excel. They need to be strong communicators, able to articulate ideas clearly, build relationships, and inspire others.
  • Your ability to effectively interact with journalists and adeptly lead a team is crucial, as is your proven capability to navigate business challenges with finesse. It's more than just communication prowess; it's about serving as the cornerstone of our strategic efforts to elevate our brand to new levels of success.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Believes in Future Group’s mission and has a passion for moving Australia’s money out of fossil-fuels and into renewable energy
  • Believes in using the power of money to build a sustainable and equitable world
  • Our ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, welcoming feedback and diverse perspectives to achieve common goals. They should be adaptable, comfortable navigating uncertainty and adjusting strategies as needed. Innovative thinking is key, as they'll be encouraged to challenge the status quo and propose fresh ideas.
  • We're seeking someone with ASX experience, a seasoned veteran in the communications realm, having navigated variously scaled organisations from startups to corporate giants. Exceptional writing skills are a must, coupled with a profound understanding of media investments and investor relations.
  • We're looking for someone with exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey our message. Strategic thinking is essential, as they'll need to develop and execute communication plans that align with our goals. Previous experience in managing media relations and crisis communication is highly valued, as well as a proven track record in building and nurturing partnerships to enhance our brand presence.

Some nice-to-haves but are not essential are:

  • Hey, we're all about recognising those extra little gems too! We're super keen on folks who've got an awesome network of media contacts, a solid background in financial communications, and a knack for understanding investor relations inside out. Oh, and if you're a pro at building strong relationships with executive leadership teams, that's definitely music to our ears!

As the Acting Head of Communications you will:

  • Your responsibilities span from setting the communication and strategy direction to identifying and addressing issues that could impact the Future Group brands reputation.
  • You will play a pivotal role in building relationships with media and purpose-driven brands, leveraging these connections to enhance our brand trust and authority. Constantly scanning the external environment, you'll stay ahead of emerging risks and opportunities, ensuring our strategies remain relevant and effective. From media liaison to crisis management, you'll be the go-to source for communication issues, providing clear recommendations and guidance both internally and externally.
  • You will work closely with internal teams, from social media producers to member advocacy, to ensure cohesive messaging and effective crisis response.
  • With your leadership, you will navigate through challenges, amplify Future Group’s brand presence, and uphold our reputation as a trusted entity in the market.

Don’t tick all the boxes?- that’s okay, we like thinking outside the box anyway. We value skills, passion and who you are over what you’ve done or where you’ve studied. So if this job strikes a chord, we want to hear from you!
