About the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance

 

The Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance is the union and leading advocate for workers in the media, entertainment and arts industries. It represents performers, journalists and all other workers in the media, entertainment and arts industries and has over 15,000 members.

 

Our strategic plan focusses attention on the needs of workers in screen, media, live performance and the music industries as well as on the communities and audiences who depend on and deserve authentic cultural expression and the journalism needed for a thriving democracy.

 

We recognise that our members and communities will be best served and represented when we put First Nations people first and act on the principles of inclusivity, access and participation.

 

 

Our Members

 

Our members include people working in television, radio, theatre and film, entertainment venues and recreation grounds, as journalists, actors, dancers, sportspeople, cartoonists and photographers, orchestral and opera performers, as well as people working in public relations, advertising, book publishing and website production.

 

 

Our Locations and Staffing

 

The MEAA national office is in Redfern in Sydney.

 

There are branch offices located in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.

 

 

Lead Organiser

 

MEAA is seeking to fill a full time Lead Organiser position based in Sydney, but this position could also be filled in either Melbourne or Brisbane. The position is responsible for developing, managing and leading organising activities nationally, across all MEAA industries, as directed.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

 

The Lead Organiser will assist MEAA industry section directors and organisers, working to operationalise MEAA’s strategic plan, with a focus on organising workers in priority industry campaigns.

 

The role reports to the MEAA Chief Executive and Campaigns Director.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Develop and implement and manage operational organising plans in line with MEAA’s industry strategies and campaigns;
  • Implement and promote organising practices, policies, strategies and systems that contribute to the unions goals, including diversity, inclusive workplaces, addressing discrimination and barriers to participation;
  • Assist coordination and management of the work of the national team of organisers,
  • Assist in campaign development, reviews and innovation
  • Develop the union’s organising capability and support the development of Organisers.

 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

 

A Lead Organiser demonstrates:

  • A passion and drive to improve workers’ lives and achieving the goals of the Union.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and educate union members and potential members;
  • Ability to participate in the unions political and social justice agenda;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience as a lead organiser preferred but not essential;
  • Ability to work flexible arrangements;
  • Leadership development, including motivating and education others
  • Excellent communication, messaging and rapport building skills.
  • Experience in leading a team.
  • Experience in organising strategy development, planning, and reporting.
  • Ability to communicate and advocate to all political parties.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Australia to assist with relevant Lead duties.

 

 

 

 

To perform this job, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:

  • A valid driver’s licence; and
  • Right of Entry Permits

 

Remuneration will depend on skills and experience.
