About the role

 

We are seeking several seasonal casuals to work on the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) project in 2025. In this role, you will be working alongside like-minded teachers and professionals in assessing a range of writing responses from Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students. We offer flexibility to work onsite or from home, while providing support for you to successfully complete the marking of the NAPLAN Writing assessment. We have positions available for teachers currently residing in both metropolitan and regional New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

Payrate: the payrate for centre-based markers are $54.64 per hour and home-based markers are $5.40 per script and $1.00 per blank script for marking. All markers are paid $54.64 per hour for training.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Attend and successfully complete marker training and induction.
  • Demonstrate competence in the online marking procedures and instructions.
  • Mark candidate responses, at an item level, using the Pearson Online Marking System.
  • Mark candidate responses of items accurately and timely in accordance with the marking criteria set by ACARA, the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and Pearson.
  • Complete all marking in accordance with training and rostered dates.
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of all assessment information and materials.
  • Receive ongoing support and instruction regarding the marking of NAPLAN writing as part of quality assurance protocols.
  • Be able to work as part of a supportive team and have the ability to work in accordance with marking rate targets.

 

Requirements

 

  • We require Markers to be available for the entire period of live marking, including training.
  • Marking period: approximately 4 - 6 weeks.
  • Training period: in the week of the 10th of March, 2025.
  • Marking will begin immediately after the training period and continue until approximately mid to late April.
  • Centre markers are required to be available to work a 5-day weekday shift (Morning or Evening), and one weekend shift (Saturday or Sunday) during the live marking period.
  • Home-based markers are required to be online during a mandatory marking period and commit to undertake a minimum of 4 hours of marking daily, for 6 days a week during the live marking period.

*Please note our test centre and marking activities are not in operations during the Easter public holiday.

 

Qualifications & experience

  • Have been teaching English or Social Sciences in an Australian Primary or Secondary School for at least 1 year and hold at least a NESA Conditional or Provisional Accreditation.
  • Have previously been a NAPLAN Marker or completed the NESA Learning Assessing writing using the NAPLAN writing marking guide – narrative or persuasive course. (Both free courses are available on the NESA Learning Page at https://lms.nesa.nsw.edu.au/).
  • Have at least a Bachelor’s degree in teaching (we are also accepting applications from students studying a teaching degree in their penultimate year from a reputable Australian institution).
  • Be able to use a computer to conduct marking and complete appropriate training.
  • Have an understanding of criterion-based marking (writing), grammar and structures.
